Edwards takes the win and championship lead at Road Atlanta

( Oct. 05, 08)    Braselton, GA - After missing the first race of the Star Mazda Championship in Sebring, John Edwards has been working his way up the points standings. After winning in Road Atlanta in Round 11 of a 12 race series, Edwards has moved into the Championship points lead heading into the season finale at Laguna Seca.

"What a race! We weren't the fastest today, but we finally had some good luck, unlike New Jersey and Mosport where we were quickest but had bad luck!

I made a move to the inside going up the hill when Dempsey and Miller ran side-by-side through Turn 1 to take the lead, but I knew Dempsey was still quicker. Fortunately for me, he ran into some trouble and I came away with the win and the championship lead."

Edwards heads into the final race at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca with a 9 point advantage over Joel Miller. This means that he only needs to finish on the podium to win the championship, regardless of where anyone else finishes. "This win takes a lot of the pressure off for Laguna, but anything can still happen. We just need to remain focused and keep doing what we've done all season."

The Star Mazda series finale takes place on October 18th, at 12:15PM Pacific time.
